Do you want to get fit again for the new term? Looking for some classes to get you ready for the start of the new academic year? Our KickStart Summer School for vocational students and professional dancers is designed to KickStart your body back into training mode.
Kickstart is a Summer School programme designed to get your body and mind back into training through a combination of classes, repertory sessions and the creation of a unique performance for sharing at the end of the week. KickStart will be led by two company members from Smallpetitklein. The dates of the Summer School are Monday 22nd to Thursday 25th August. The day begins at 9.30am and finishes at 4.00pm.
Each day begins with two contemporary technique classes (called ‘Fundamental’ and ‘Move’) and the afternoon is devoted to repertoire and the performance project. An informal performance of the work created during the Summer School will take place on Thursday 25th August at 3pm and participants are encouraged to invite family and friends to this sharing.
Class Descriptions:
With Fundamental, participants will take a closer look at placement, centring and body awareness. This class offers a chance to bridge the gap between the summer break and your vocational training, looking in-depth at how’s, why’s and where’s. These findings will be carried through into travelling and sequences, remaining at a fast pace throughout.
Move begins with a brief warm-up, moving to focus on dynamic phrases, jumping combinations and fluid travelling sequences which cut through the space. This class gives participants a chance to dive, head-first into their vocational training by engaging with their bodies at a fast pace. This class will take no prisoners!
Repertoire:
Repertoire for KickStart will focus on our current touring work, Falling Man, which the company will present at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe from 5th to 21st August at Dance Base. Falling Man was recently performed to sell out audiences in New York City at the Cunningham Studios. We will also be performing Falling Man at Adam Smith Theatre in Kirkcaldy on Friday 26th August should you be interested in seeing the performance. We will give you details of how to book tickets for this performance during KickStart.

The Summer School will take place at The Space, Dundee College, Kingsway Campus, Old Glamis Road, Dundee DD3 8LE.
