Biography

Jodie grew up in Cambridge and she studied and trained in musical theatre at college whilst also gaining a distinction in RADA and LAMDA acting awards. Jodie graduated from York St John University with a BA (Hons) degree in Contemporary Dance in 2008, she then went on to pursue further training at the Scottish School of Contemporary Dance, achieving an HND in 2011. During her time at university Jodie had many opportunities to be involved in dance, these include a professional tour with the undergraduate ‘Fight Effect Dance Company’, selected to practice and study dance at New York State University for 4 months, workshop leader during the ‘Flight Effect Dance Company’ tour. Jodie has been chosen to take part in various community dance projects such as Yorks Arts Festival with Edward Lynch working with young people in creative dance. A passion of Jodie’s is working in the community with young adults, people with disabilities, and anybody she can inspire to enjoy dance.

Jodie embraces teaching, being with people performing and choreographing. During her training she has had the chance to experience all these aspects.  She has worked closely with Thomas Small as a teacher and choreographer; other experiences include working with Zoobin Surty, Beth Cassini, Rita Marcalo, and Edward Lynch. Through these opportunities Jodie has discovered a love for dance theatre and community dance.

With Jodie’s determination she will fulfil her ambition and ultimately inspire to express and share her passion of dance in anyway she can within performance, choreography and investing time in the community. She believes dance can change the world and make a difference.

Jo began delivering Smallpetitklein’s Children’s Classes in 2010 and joined Smallpetitklein full time as Dance Worker in 2011.
